LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Our dearest misters,

The time has finally come! Mister is springing up with new blooms, falling in step with the shifting seasons and the soft vanishing of last frosts. I’m writing just a day after our launch party—a gathering that felt like both a celebration of spring and the beginning of a new era for Mister.

Our digital archive, featuring every piece from Issue III, is now yours to explore, linger in, and return to (for free!). If you made it to the launch, I hope it was nourishing, joyful, and a little surreal. And if you didn’t—we missed you dearly. I hope the photos below stir a little healthy jealousy (just playing... but really, don’t miss the next one).

Endless thanks to Emily at Still-Life Studios, who so graciously welcomed us into her space of wonder and sustainable craft. Everyone who walked through those doors left moved by the intention and beauty she’s cultivated there. You can sign up for her workshops or explore her co-working options at stillifestudios.com. We couldn’t have imagined a more perfect space to hold this moment.

As we take time to breathe, reflect, and dream up the next issue, we’re returning to the practices that ground and reconnect us to the care and intentionality we hope runs through all that we do. This summer, I’ll be working at a no-till farm in Concord, MA, learning from sustainable and Indigenous farming methods that remind me—over and over—of our deep interconnectedness and the quiet responsibility we carry as stewards of this one shared earth.

It’s Earth Month! The days are warming, the light lingers a little longer, and I hope you’re finding ways to slow down and be present with yourself.  I hope you’re caring for your body as it softens and defrosts from the long, bitter winter. And I hope, above all, that you’re grieving, loving, and existing in community—however that looks for you—in these uncertain times.

Thank you, always, for your continued support, your patience, and your belief in what we’re building here. We’re so excited for all the new Mister content, connections, and collaborations headed your way.

With so much love,
Fatima Swaray

FROM ISSUE III

A love letter from Tima and PJ

Each edition of this newsletter will delve into one piece from Issue III. To set the scene, we invite you to read our editors’ letter. Only a few tears were shed during the writing (and re-reading) process, we promise!

FROM MR.WEB

Two poems by Imogen Lambert

In The Sarsen Woman and Exhumation, Imogen Lambert maps histories of violence, reclamation, and revenge onto two unnamed women. I adore how Lambert, a researcher focused on exploitation and abuse, renders her heroine's bodies. To their abusers, they stay like spectres, strike like stones. To their protectors, they provide lodging, food, and warmth. Though broken and buried, Lambert's women are still living, seething things.

ON OUR RADAR

Sunny submission opportunities

Our favorite queer litmag, Fruitslice, is now accepting submissions for their upcoming issue: HOME. Submit your “strange little beauties” by April 20.

Who doesn’t love a debut? Stained Silk Magazine is seeking the best and brightest for their inaugural print and online issue through April 15.

Songs for spring

To bridge the gap between Boston and Buenos Aires, we’ve been obsessively listening to Juana Molina’s Segundo. Who doesn’t love some understated pastoral electronica to get their day going?!

That’s all for now. WE LOVE YOU!
